For a friend
One place, in WhatsApp. Nobody needs the whole guide to answer one question.
For guests
A printed card on the table. They scan it and read, with nothing to install.
Who it’s for
The person everyone texts before they travel.
You’re always being asked
You keep the list in your head. Now you can send a link.
You know somewhere well
Not everywhere. Maybe four streets you know cold. Eleven places you love beat four hundred you don’t.
You host people
Friends, houseguests, paying guests. Give them the city you’d give someone you care about.

Eat

Paris has thousands of restaurants. These aren’t all of the good ones. They’re the ones I find myself recommending.

Early June
Currently one of my favorite tables in the city. Great food, natural wine, good service.

About As I Know It
This started as a Google Doc.
Friends kept asking us where to eat in Paris, what was actually worth booking, and the small practical things you only learn by living somewhere. So we wrote them down and sent the document around.
Then their friends started forwarding it.
That is the whole idea. The best recommendations already travel this way, from someone who knows a city to someone about to visit it, and they usually arrive as a text message or a document nobody can find again a year later.
So we make them into something worth keeping. Every guide here is one person’s taste. Nothing is ranked, nothing is averaged out of a thousand reviews, and every place in it was chosen by the person whose name is on it. When everything else is machine-made, somebody’s actual taste is the rare thing.
